Celebrating 50 years of serving seniors  1965-2015

Guardian Angels of Elk River was founded in 1962 under the sponsorship of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Elk River in cooperation with Elk River’s business leaders and medical community to serve the elderly of Elk River and surrounding communities.

Guardian Angels Care Center (originally called the Elk River Nursing Home) opened its 60-bed nursing facility in November of 1965. In 1973, 60 more beds were added beds, for a total of 120 skilled nursing home beds. Over the years the Care Center has become one of the most highly regarded homes for seniors in the area and set the stage for the success of Guardian Angels Senior Services, a nonprofit, faith based senior care organization.

In 1966 our first HUD apartment building opened its doors as Riverview Apartments serving 24 residents on the banks of the Mississippi River also in Elk River. Guardian Angels continued to grow and change its services to meet the ever changing needs of the senior population. In 1991 Guardian Angels opened a Medicare certified home care agency and added hospice care in 2005. Our two newest locations opened in 2014. Engel Haus (Albertville) offers Catered Living, Assisted Living & Memory Care. Autumn Glen Senior Living (Coon Rapids) provides Apartment Living, Assisted Living & Memory Care services. Please see the Directory of Services in this issue for contact information. Since our beginnings, we have strived to realize our mission of providing exceptional healthcare, housing and supportive services to seniors and their families in the spirit of Christ’s love. Today we serve over 3,000 individuals and their families annually in the communities of Elk River, Zimmerman, Becker, Albertville and Coon Rapids. We are blessed with a dedicated and compassionate staff of about 460, and hundreds of volunteers, auxiliary members and loyal donors.
