Testimonials

Dear Friends of Guardian Angels,

The “Spirit of Giving” is alive and flourishing at Guardian Angels! Last Holiday Season, we were blessed with an outpouring of support to our Chaplaincy Program from you, our loyal supporters.  These gifts provided the funding needed to finance this vital service throughout 2009.

GA-Lyle.jpgLet me share with you how your support helps make a difference in the daily life of Lyle Melcher.  Lyle moved to Guardian Angels from South Dakota six years ago at the urging of his youngest daughter who lives in Elk River.  Lyle suffers from emphysema, COPD, and other health issues. He is able to live independently at Guardian Oaks, one of our senior independent living apartment buildings which offers a menu of services plus a hot, nutritional noon meal every weekday made possible through the collaboration of Catholic Charities and Guardian Angels.

It is not uncommon to see Lyle buzzing down the streets of Elk River on his motorized scooter on his way to Walmart, the clinic or other errands. “Life is great for me now that I’m at Guardian Angels. This is where I want to spend my remaining days” states Lyle.

“While my daughter urged me to come, it was really the Holy Spirit that led me here.   My apartment is lovely, but it’s the staff, volunteers, services, and programs that set Guardian Angels apart from other senior communities.”

“The Chaplaincy Program, directed by Chaplain Margaret Quill, is what helps me get through life’s challenges,” explains Lyle.  “I attend a weekly ecumenical study group on the Guardian Angels’ campus that gives me guidance, strength, hope, and friendship.  Life is difficult enough at any age but, when you’re in your 80’s and dealing with health, family, and financial issues, it becomes overwhelming. This support keeps me from giving up.   It is a blessing to have friends to turn to in good and bad times.”

This is just one of the hundreds of stories we hear from grateful individuals and families who are struggling through difficult times.  Our Chaplaincy Outreach is truly making a difference in the lives of those we serve. Guardian Angels needs your help to maintain this spiritual care program as neither the federal nor state government support this type of programming.

We need to call on you and your “Spirit of Giving” once again and ask that you provide a gift to our Chaplaincy Program.  All you have to do is include your tax-deductible holiday contribution with the form enclosed and return it to us today.  Your gift will bless hundreds by providing spiritual support, comfort, healing and hope.

May peace, happiness, and good health surround you and yours this Holiday Season and in the coming year.

Season’s Blessings,

Daniel D. Dixon
